1. How is the globe useful?
Ans. The globe shows the shape of the Earth. It
also shows the location of the continents,
countries, oceans and seas.
2. Why are lines of latitude and longitude drawn on the globe?
Ans. The lines of latitude and longitude are
imaginary vertical and horizontal lines drawn
on the globe which help to locate a place.
3. What is Prime Meridian ?
Ans. The Prime Meridian is an imaginary line
running from the North Pole to the South
Pole. It runs through the Royal Observatory at
Greenwich near London and is marked as 0°.
4. If a place has a latitude of 10° N, is it in the Northern or Southern hemisphere?
Ans. If the place has a latitude of 10° N, then it is in
the Northern Hemisphere.
5. We know that the nearer a place is to the poles, the cooler it is likely to be. Which city, in a) and b) below, is likely to be cooler?
Ans. a. City Y will be colder than city X
b. City Z will be colder than city W
