Chapter 1: The Earth in the universe 

Answer the following questions.

1. Describe the universe.

Ans. The universe is a vast expanse of space which contains heavenly bodies like stars, planets and moons. 

2. What are stars?

Ans. Stars are huge balls of hot burning gases. They give out heat and light. They are very far away from the Earth. 

3. What are constellations? Name a few well-known constellations.

Ans. Some groups of stars appear to make patterns in the sky. These group of stars are called constellations. Some well-known constellations are Leo the lion, the Great Bear or Saptarishi, and Orion. 

4. What is the solar system? Name the different planets of the Solar System.

Ans. The Sun and the eight planets make up the Solar system. The planets of the Solar System are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.

5. What are planets?

Ans. Planets are heavenly bodies that travel around a star.
