Unit -1 Mowgli and the Bandar log


Summary:

‘Mowgli and the Bandar-Log’ is a picture story based on an extract from The Jungle Book written by Rudyard Kipling. The story revolves around Mowgli and his friends, Baloo and Bagheera. Mowgli is a seven-year-old boy raised in the jungle by a family of wolves. Bagheera and Baloo are his teachers and best friends. Baloo teaches him the laws of the jungle and keeps him safe from danger. One day, the Bandar-Log take Mowgli away. The Bandar-Log are disliked by the Jungle People as they do not follow any laws. Baloo and Bagheera, true friends of Mowgli, begin looking for him. Rann, the kite, inform them that the Bandar-Log have taken Mowgli to the Monkey City called the Cold Lairs. Baloo and Bagheera decide to follow them to the Cold Lairs and rescue him from the clutches of the Bandar-Log.

B. Answers these questions.

1. What was Mowgli doing when the Bandar-Log took him away?

Ans. Mowgli was taking a midday nap with Baloo and Bagheera when the Bandar-Log took him away.

2. Why were the Bandar-log happy that Bagheera had seen them?

Ans. The Bandar-Log were happy that Bagheera had seen them taking Mowgli away because they thought that the animals in the jungle will praise them for their courage and cleverness.

3. Whom did Mowgli ask for help?

Ans. Mowgli asked Rann, the kite, for help.

4. Who taught Mowgli the laws of the jungle?

Ans. Baloo had taught Mowgli the laws of the jungle.

5. What was Rann’s message for Baloo and Bagheera?

Ans. Rann gave Baloo and Bagheera the message that he had seen Mowgli with the Bandar-Log. They were taking Mowgli to the Cold Lairs, which was the Monkey City, beyond the river.

Ans.  Baloo had said these words.

2. What did he not warn Mowgli about?

Ans. He had not warned Mowgli about the Bandar-Log.

3. Why was the speaker blaming himself?

Ans. The speaker was blaming himself because he thought he should have warned Mowgli about the

Bandar-Log. He should have told Mowgli why the Jungle People did not like them.

4. What happened immediately after this?

Ans. Immediately after this, Baloo and Bagheera were met by Rann, the kite, who brought news of Mowgli.
